Good point Lin. It is great if you can setup a temporary redirect from the memorable name you mention on the radio that points to your authorname site, but that costs extra money.
My feeling is bookname.com is limiting in two ways.
First -- the community and good will you have built up on bookname.com doesn't travel with you when you move on to book number two. Second, it is really hard to establish your bookname.com site within Google's results. It is hard but not impossible. You pretty much have to rely on people knowing the name of your site to be able to find you. If that is the case then doing search engine marketing is a waste of money.

Interesting...I hadn't thought of this view of a book title website as being virtually unimportant compared to the author name website. I'm going to continue thinking about that.

It does, perhaps, seem a catchy book title, such as Email Marketer's Cookbook, might be easier for a person in conversation or listening on the radio to remember. What do you think?

[...] During the past few weeks, I have been spending increasing amounts of time researching the elements that contribute to successful author websites. I’ve always been reviewing the various blogs on my blogroll to see what other authors have to say about author websites. One of the best was a Canadian website that contained a provocative posting entitled 14 Things I Have Learned About Author Websites. [...]
