Chris Hedges: CBC is a Force That Makes me Want to Buy Books

Michael Enright makes me want to throw my radio at the wall — most of the time. This morning I caught his interview with Chris Hedges, author of I Don’t Believe in Atheists. I really enjoyed Hedges’ 2002 book War Is a Force that Gives Us Meaning. Last year Hedges called the Religious Right a bunch of fascists. Now he has turned his guns on the atheist crowd — labeling them racists. From what I can tell, he actually makes the case on both sides. Enright’s interview not only let me know the book had been published but it made me want to read it…

…but I need to wait for the tradepaper. Simon is charging $29 CAD ($25 USD) for about 150 pages of text. Worth it? Yah probably even with the wonky exchange, but I didn’t have 30 stingers on me when I passed the book store today.

After the interview Enright had a segment about Canadians’ fascination with the weather (I am not kidding). When he commented there had been all kinds of movies lately featuring tornadoes — mistaking 2008 for 1996 — I did throw my radio at the wall.

It is a shame the CBC isn’t simply podcasting their entire shows. Neither the Hedges nor weather segments are available for download as part of the show’s podcast. It would be a lot of bandwidth yes — but the corp’s mandate is to provide the content how we want it. Higher server cost but less man hours to post the thing in its entirety. Arghh.
