Dakota: A Movie By People with Crazy Talent
Two guys finish work at a big-box bookstore in downtown Toronto. A guy like me would have hit the movie theatre to unwind. Brendan Gall and Matt Atkinson decided to make a feature length movie of their own. That was in 2004. This week Dakota premiered at the Royal theatre in TO.
How was it? H-ya good!
It is influenced by The Big Chill — which I have always thought of as someone else’s nostalgia trip. This movie, on the other hand, was familiar but elusive. It infuriated me in parts. In a good way. Like when you burn the top of your mouth on hot pizza.
Not sure if it will ever see the big show, but in the age of digital distribution you never know — so I am plugging it here.
Things I liked…
- Chad Donella channels Christian Bale
- The holster part
- The HVRZ1U and accompanying cinematography
- The Harmony Trowbridge song at the end — Where did she come from? Where can I buy that song?
Congratulations guys. A good show. Sorry I stole the publicity still.
