I Joined a Friend From Out of Town for Dinner Tonight

Picture 6 As I went to meet him at around 6:30 pm I was stopped by a policeman on the sidewalk on Richmond Street West and Brandt. He told me to turn back. To his right was his partner in a squad car. Down the block was an ambulance askew in the  one way street left unintended. I skirted the block. There was another cop car on Camden. And another one at Spadina and Richmond. Three cops this time. One directing traffic. They were blocking traffic from driving down Richmond in the direction I just came from. I peered down the street. Three more cops and another ambulance. One policewoman was barking at a driver to get the hell out of there. I walked north on Spadina and peered down the alley. Two more cop cars.

Intense.

Five cop cars in total. Two ambulances. And a dozen cops all taking positions of cover in downtown Toronto. A drug deal? An explosive? Hmmm.

Six hours later I log onto to twitter to discover what the commotion was all about. The SWAT team was on its way to arrest a partner at a local UX shop.

The guy — in the privacy of his own office — was assembling a lego toy he had gotten for Christmas. The toy happened to be a replica Glock semi-auto.

The tweets from Mr-X pretty much tell the rest of the story.

Incidentally, the agency also has other nifty gadgets kicking around. Only the anti-DRM peeps will likely flag that one.
