Michael Geist is reporting on new provisions in the yet to be finalized Canada-Europe free-trade agreement. They include an extension of the Canadian copyright term by 20 years, a Canadian ban on DRM circumvention, and a royalty on the resale of certain items — yes if I resell something I own, I would need to pay the creator a royalty.
This kind of ask seems rather ordinary these days and it seems destined to polarize opinions even further on the rules for the new economy.
