Just In Time Bookshelf Management?
Joseph Esposito posits that fewer books will be purchased in a digital world because…
the architecture and business model for the Kindle support a “buy only when you need it” frame of mind, aka “just in time” inventory management. In the hardcopy world, where many books (no one knows how many) are bought “just in case,” the number of books purchased exceeds the number of books read.
I get that but I wonder if the human need to acquire will be abated or accelarted by the transition to digital, If the price is right (and if there is no DRM) I will want to maintain my digital collection as vigorously as I fill my bookshelves. Maybe that is just me.
