NYRB Recommends Google Book Search — Kind Of

Over on the NYRB blog they announced their books were available for preview on Google Book Search. A publisher actually sending readers to GBS? That is pretty cool. I thought so. My bud Rob thought so too.

I was excited. I checked through the list. I saw Moravia’s Contempt and Mavis Gallant’s Paris Stories…awesome…both without access.

And … fail. So close.

In related news the London Review of Books Store is still open. It turns five this year.

No offense to our friendly neighbors to the north—especially so close to Canada day—but so far, we’ve only made the materials available within the US. There are many many books we don’t have rights to distribute outside the US, and we didn’t want to step on any publisher toes. The next phase is to figure out foreign rights (what we can make available outside the US). Sorry about that!

Paris Stories is with M&S (all of Gallant I think).
BTW the London Review of Books Store is quite nice, small but very intelligently stocked.

Just thought I’d point this out :) Dundurn’s been sending readers to GBS for a while to search through the full text — http://www.dundurn.com
