One Web Page for Every Book Ever Published

In the aftermath of the closure of Microsoft’s Live Book search program I was fascinated to learn there is an open source project that is trying to bring together out of print works, orphan works, public domain works and other available books all in one place. It is essentially a wikipedia meets IMDB for books. Actually it is a virtual library for the world — bigger than the library of congress.

It is called OpenLibrary.org.

It is being run by Brewster Kahle — the sage behind the Internet Archive. And in keeping with his philosophy “the software is open, the data is open, the documentation is open, and the site is open.”

Two words Mr. Kahle — thank you.
