SeenReading.com: Epiphanies from Print in Public

Julie Wilson’s SeenReading project is featured as today’s video letter at DearToronto. The video runs for about six minutes. DearToronto is a project by Adam Schwabe, Ryan Couldrey, and Rebecca Black. It is new to me, but pretty much exemplifies the micromedia groundswell happening in the city. Go Adam Go. SeenReading has been around for a while and I have followed Wilson on and off since its inception. Essentially she spies on people reading in public. What is great about the video is Wilson’s explanation of what she does — her motivation is more art curator than lurking voyeur. There is also a weird reversal here. We get to spy on her. Keep an eye out for her kick-ass ring.

Thanks Mark! I’ve been following Seen Reading for a while too so I was only too happy to hear that Julie was on board with my idea of tagging along with her on the rails. It was a fun one to shoot, too :)

“…her motivation is more art curator than lurking voyeur.” Bless you! I do take advantage of opportunities, but I try not to be intrusive. In fact, I rarely use my notebook, reciting most details to memory. That said, I want that video still on a Tshirt. (That woman had a bag full of X-Men figurines, by the way.)

P.S. The ring is by local artist Ashley Winnington-Ball. She works with found materials. Really great stuff. I own a number of pieces. http://www.awinningtonball.ca/
