The Taking of Pelham One Two Three

movieposter from wikipedia There are numerous scenes in The Taking of Pelham One Two Three where the characters respond with disbelief to the news of the train hijacking. At first it is beyond their understanding and then later, mystery turns to riddle — the subway tunnel is a closed loop — how will the hijackers get away? The fact that a portion of these scenes take place in the NYC subway control room made me think of similar scenes in United 93. Further touchstones with 911 are bound to surface when Tony Scott remakes The Taking of Pelham One Two Three this year. How is he going to put a fresh spin on this story now that it hits so close to home? When I think Scott I think subtle. I will say it now before someone beats me to it — train wreck.

It was neat to see Pelham’s influence on both Tarantino’s Reservoir Dogs and Batman Begins. Worth seeing.
