This Caught My Eye

Picture 46Trouble by Kate Christensen is on Ben McNally’s Summer Reading list. Ann Kingman also recommends it on the latest Books On the Nightstand podcast. I went to buy it last night — sorry Ben your store hours suck — at Chapters. A few things got my attention. Hardcover prices have started to creep up again. Trouble is $32. And I spotted Chandler Burr’s latest (pictured). That cover is pretty effective. I also noticed inventory of Ayn Rand books was above average. I wonder if the Wall Street Journal editorial spiked sales?

Thanks for the link, Mark. Let me know what you think of Trouble. I’m not sure I would have pegged you for the reader of this book (you seem like more the Epicure’s Lament reader), so I’m eager to hear your reaction.

My bookstore customers here in the US have been reporting strong sales on Ayn Rand books since the economy started tanking. Knopf has a big bio of Ayn Rand coming in October (US publication) so I’m hoping interest in her stays strong.

@Ann — you are correct. Trouble wasn’t for me. Gifted it to a friend. :-)
