Trying to Buy Audio Books on iTunes, Again.
Audible is doing a huge marketing push on a lot of the podcasts I listen to. They even have Alex and Kevin doing Audible picks over on Diggnation.
I am resisting.
For some reason, maybe it is the idea of signing up at yet another webservice, I have stuck with iTunes.
When Amazon bought Audible, I figured Apple would up their game. Not so.
- They are still not picking up new books. Books by Chris Hedges and Sebastian Faulks are absent.
- Selection aside, their merchandising is still poor.
- Their browse feature, after the first few initial splash pages, makes you browse by author alone. The music paradigm breaks.
And is it just me or has iTunes become a huge monolith on your hard drive? Now with the iPhone store it seems it is this ever-expanding media Mussolini — pushy but ineffective.
I am virtualizing Windows on this machine. Un-initiated (righ usage?) by me, the Apple installer tried to install iTunes and Quicktime inside the virtual machine. Back off.
Can’t wait for the SongBird project to save me. In the meantime, I just bought another iTunes audio book (sorry Nathan). Thankfully it looks like the tracks are actually aligned with chapters this time. Hooray.
