INDEX // mb Ideas on Publishing Books in Canada (and other attempts to write good)

“Why should I do that? I reboot every night”

Ethan Kaplan is pointing to an epic email rant from Bill Gates regarding usability. This has nothing to do with book publishing in Canada, but I, for one, have worked for that founder that throws grenades around via email — sometimes those emails unexpectedly hit on the truth. Here is a sarcastic morsel…

These 45 names are totally confusing. These names make stuff like: C:\Documents and Settings\billg\My Documents\My Pictures seem clear.

This retirement thing is spurring a nostalgia nerd trip all over the place. Cnet’s Molly Wood wants to give the guy a hug. I remember reading an essay (I think it was in What Just Happened) about the early days in MSWord development. Word would crash. The writer would phone Microsoft customer service. The Microsoft people would shrug — they were working the bugs out after the product release. Users simply had to buck up. It is not like Gates suddenly woke up one day to find his products frustrating to use.
